About
Patrick Joosten’s work explores emotional tension through abstraction, fragmentation and material transformation.
Balancing instinct and structure, his paintings emerge through layered processes of construction, disruption and erasure, creating compositions suspended between silence, instability and equilibrium.
Rather than representing reality, the work creates perceptual spaces shaped by gesture, texture and emotional resonance.
The Artist
Patrick Joosten is a French contemporary abstract artist known for a distinctive visual language rooted in experimentation, intuition and emotional depth.
Largely self-taught, his practice evolved independently from traditional academic structures, allowing the development of a highly personal approach to abstraction and material expression.
Inspired by organic forms, psychological tension and the fragile balance between chaos and structure, Joosten creates works that function less as representations than as emotional and perceptual experiences.
His work has received international recognition through awards, curated publications and global contemporary art platforms.
Artistic Language
Joosten’s practice exists at the intersection of lyrical abstraction, gestural expression and contemporary experimental painting.
Organic fragmentation, layered textures, spatial imbalance and chromatic tension form the foundation of a visual vocabulary focused on emotional resonance rather than formal perfection.
Each composition evolves intuitively through cycles of construction, interruption and transformation, allowing the painting itself to dictate its final equilibrium.

Process & Materiality
The studio process is guided by experimentation and controlled unpredictability.
Layers are applied, disrupted, erased and rebuilt repeatedly until the composition reaches a state of fragile equilibrium.
Texture functions not as surface decoration, but as an active emotional structure within the work.
The resulting paintings preserve traces of their own transformation, allowing gesture, erosion and material tension to remain visible within the final image.
